About West Jasper Sherwood

We are the West Jasper Sherwood Community League (WJSCL), a volunteer-run organization bringing together the neighbourhoods of West Jasper Place and Sherwood in Edmonton's west end.

Who we are

Building community together

Community gathering in West Jasper Sherwood

The West Jasper Sherwood Community League (WJSCL) is the heart of our two historic neighbourhoods. Formed in 1985 through the merger of the original Sherwood (1949) and West Jasper Place (1950) leagues, we have been bringing neighbours together for over seven decades.

We are a completely volunteer-run organization dedicated to making our community a better place to live, work, and play. From maintaining our local outdoor rink and tennis courts to hosting community dinners, sports programs, and social events, the league provides the spaces and activities that turn a neighbourhood into a community.

As a proud member of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL), we also serve as the collective voice for our residents, advocating for our community's interests on matters of civic planning, development, and infrastructure.

West Jasper Place & Sherwood

Elm-lined street in West Jasper Place

Located in Edmonton's west end—bounded by Stony Plain Road to the north, 149 Street to the east, 92 Avenue to the south, and 156 Street to the west—West Jasper Place and Sherwood are vibrant, mature neighbourhoods known for their beautiful tree-lined streets, generous lots, and strong sense of community. Originally part of the Town of Jasper Place before its amalgamation with Edmonton in 1964, our area blends rich history with exciting new growth.

West Jasper Place is famous for its magnificent American elm boulevards that form lush green tunnels over the streets. It is home to Arthur Elliott Park, Sherwood Elementary School, and our Community Hall. The neighbourhood is highly walkable, with a scenic multi-use trail along 100 Avenue connecting directly to the stunning McKinnon Ravine.

Sherwood offers a quieter, primarily residential setting. Centred around the expansive Sherwood Community Park, it provides a peaceful retreat while remaining highly connected.

While our community has a proud history of protecting its mature character, we are actively embracing positive change. With the upcoming Valley Line West LRT along our northern edge, recent infrastructure upgrades, and thoughtful new infill development welcoming young families, our neighbourhoods are more dynamic and accessible than ever.
