Welcome to our latest community update! We have several important events and seasonal activities to share with you as we move through the winter months.
Community Conversation with Our Councillor
The community conversation originally planned for March 24th at Belmead Community League has moved to a digital format. Councillor Andrew Knack will now be hosting this session via a live stream on his YouTube channel on March 24th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
This is a great opportunity to hear local updates and ask questions directly through the YouTube comment feed. If there are specific topics you would like him to address, please feel free to email him in advance at Andrew.Knack@Edmonton.ca.
The Ice Rink is Open!
Bundle up and head down to our skating rink at 9620-152 Street! Our Ice Manager, Paul, has worked hard to create one of the best outdoor surfaces in Edmonton. Whether you want to play a game of shinny hockey or just glide along to festive Christmas music, it is the perfect place for some winter exercise.
Skating Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday: 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Sunday: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Note: The rink may close if the temperature reaches -20°C (including wind chill).
Admission & Memberships: You can pay a $2.00 daily drop-in fee or purchase a League Membership right at the rink to skate for free all season!
Membership Rates:
- Family: $30.00
- Single Adult (18+): $15.00
- Senior (55+): $5.00
Member Benefits: Beyond the rink, your membership card grants you free access to the Commonwealth Recreation Centre (11000 Stadium Road) on Saturdays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM until August 29, 2020. This includes the fitness centre, salt water pool, waterslide, and various sports courts. You also receive a 20% discount at city recreation facilities and various local business discounts.
Jasper Gates Redevelopment Public Information Session
On Tuesday, January 14th, 2020, the City will present RioCan’s final proposal for the Jasper Gates redevelopment. The session runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the West End Christian Reformed Church (10015-149 Street).
This rezoning proposal is scheduled for a public hearing at City Council on February 4th. While the Community League proposed compromises to reduce tower heights and density, RioCan has chosen to move forward with their original plans. We encourage residents to attend and stay informed.
Community Connector
Join Councillor Andrew Knack for the inaugural Community Connector on Saturday, February 1st, 2020, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Westend Seniors Activity Centre (9629 176 St NW).
This event is designed for citizens to share community strengths and discuss collective improvements. The afternoon will feature a presentation on community safety from Police Chief McFee and closing remarks from Jan Fox of REACH. It is a fantastic way to collaborate with local organizations serving Ward 1.
Please RSVP via Eventbrite or email Rajah.Maggay@edmonton.ca.
