Stay informed and stay involved! Here are the latest updates and upcoming events for our West Jasper Place and Sherwood community.
Developers Will be Door Knocking
With the federal government advancing funding for the West Valley Line LRT next spring, we expect to see increased interest from developers looking to purchase properties in our neighborhood. Land values typically rise once the LRT is operational, and our community is a prime location with its central access, beautiful elm-treed boulevards, and proximity to the MacKinnon Ravine.
Do not undersell your property! Even teardown houses on standard lots (approx. 50' x 149') have recently sold for $300,000. If you have questions or need more information, please contact Irene at 780-489-2994.
Public Open House: Jasper Gates Rezoning
Wednesday, Nov. 28 | 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM The Orange Hub (10045 156 St), Room #333
RioCan is proposing a major redevelopment of the Jasper Gates Shopping Center into mixed-use housing, featuring up to 1,000 rental apartment units. This proposal will have a significant impact on our community, so please drop in to share your input.
Community Standards Bylaw Mix and Mingle
Tuesday, November 27th | 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM Jasper Place Library (9010-156 Street)
Come meet your local Municipal Enforcement Officers (MEO) for a friendly "mix and mingle." This is a great chance to ask questions about the Community Standards Bylaw and learn more about:
- The role of an MEO and how they can help resolve neighborhood issues.
- What is covered under the bylaw and how ticketing decisions are made.
- Expectations for winter snow removal.
- Open Q&A session.
One Way West Traffic Option on Stony Plain Road
On October 15, 2018, City Council’s Executive Committee will debate a proposal for a one-way west traffic option on Stony Plain Road (from 149 to 156 Street). This plan would move the LRT to the south side of the road and increase the distance between stations, which may create accessibility challenges for those with mobility issues or young children.
There are also concerns regarding business access, emergency vehicle routes, and the long-term viability of local shops. If you wish to speak at this meeting, call Irene at 780-489-2994. You can also email your feedback to lrtprojects@edmonton.ca and copy the Executive Committee and our Councillor, Andrew Knack (andrew.knack@edmonton.ca).
Community Crime Update
During the month of August, West Jasper Place recorded 9 crimes (including thefts from autos and break-and-enters), while Sherwood recorded 3. While we remain vigilant, it is worth noting that our crime statistics remain lower than some adjacent communities like Canora (20) and Grovenor (12). Let's continue to look out for one another!
